After searching for over a month on how to root/install twrp all i cound find were instructions for the SM-T110/1…
N.B I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS RECOVERY IN ANYWAY
I am writting to help fellow SM-T116 owners… Since ive been searching for a long time…. I believe there isnt a guide to root this Tab yet.
So it begins… N.B MAKE SURE you device’s code name is goyave or goyave3g
Get the recovery here
download the .tar recovery, you will upgrade to v3 manually.
Get Odin v3.10.* here
Boot your Tab 3 lite to download mode by: holding power + home + vol down or use adb reboot bootloader
believing all your drivers are installed correctly open Odin*.exe , connect your tab and press volume up… at this stage Odin should recognise your device
on the ID:COM section like [IMG="odin 3.10 device detected"]here[/IMG]

Now select AP and navigate to the recovery you downloaded.
select it and tap Start
After Odin flashes the recovery it will tell you PASS!
Now press and hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN
when the screen goes black change and hold HOME + VOLUME UP
you will be greeted by the TWRP logo
