Galaxy Note 10.1 [GT-N8013; 4.1.2] rooted + TWRP — stuck in bootloop (softbrick)

$

Hi, — I’m new to flashing and have already managed to softbrick this Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8013). :(
[My original goal was to flash Gnabo Rom v8 over the stock JB firmware (4.1.2)].

**Note: I realize there’s a dedicated Galaxy Note 10.1 developers-section here on XDA, but wasn’t sure about starting a thread over there before post my Q’s here first.

Problem: Following a root and TWRP install, I’m unfortunately now stuck in a TWRP bootloop (reboots come back to TWRP).
From what I’ve read, this is referred to as a ‘soft-brick’ state.

Current operational status:
* TWRP v2.8.7.0 seems to work OK — that is, all major functionality seems to work within TWRP (eg. backup/restore; file manager; install; wipe; mount; etc)
* Attempted reboots to system from within TWRP (except to ‘reboot–>power-off’) results in a loop right back to TWRP.
* I Have Odin v3.09 installed on PC — Odin recognizes N8013. — I have only used Odin *once* to flash TWRP. — result= Passed
* Can get to download mode (via Pwr+DownVolume buttons)
* Have backup(s) on both internal/external storage — attempts to restore brings same result of reboot back to TWRP

How I got here:
* Root install: Starting from stock rom (4.1.2 unrooted), I downloaded KingRoot from Playstore and effected a root the tablet. After this, I also downloaded and ran two different ‘rootchecker’ apps to verify su was successful. — Report= success.
* TWRP install: After reading about custom-recovery options I chose to go with TWRP. Downloaded Odin v3.09 (installed on PC) and downloaded TWRP 2.8.7.0. and proceeded to install TWRP onto the N8013. — **Odin reported no problems and everything *seemed* to go well. (I did NOT check/uncheck any Odin configs).
* After rebooting the N8013, the TWRP recovery came up and I proceeded to investigate the various touch-based features (but without initially executing any functions). But on yet another reboot, I was brought back again to TWRP. And this is now what occurs consistently with my N8013.

— So within TWRP, I then began to try (multiple times) to:
* hit reboot/to system; = reboots to TWRP
* reboot/to bootloader; = reboots to ‘download’
* reboot/recovery; = reboots to TWRP

At so at that point I began to search&read… then search&read some more (both here on XDA & thru google-search).

Found:
I’ve found a LOT of folks with other devices (eg. HTC, Kindle, nexus, etc.) who have experienced *similar* bootloop issues (using both TWRP & CWM),.. but most of them involve looping on the bootup splash page leaving them only a download (Odin) recovery option available.

Furthermore, from extensive searching I’ve read through a HUGE range of suggestions for all kinds of possible fixes (ranging from very simple to relatively complex procedures) but which are virtually always tied to the particular device in question. In other words, I’ve not found anything relating specifically to the N8013 (using TWRP), and the particular boot-to-twrp loop behavior such as I’ve encountered.

At this point I’m a little nervous on how to proceed. I’m not familiar with these issues enough to feel very confident that I can avoid the risk of making things even worse.

Situation summary:
* Something is broken that won’t allow my tablet to boot into the system.
* There appears to still be a system on the device (judging by the files & folders viewable thru not only TWRP File manager, but also thru ADB access on the PC).
* I have made backups (several) to both internal and external storage using TWRP. In addition, I’ve copied entire contents of both internal/external storage cards to the PC.
* I have also attempted restoring previous backups (several times via TWRP). And each ‘restoration’ appears to execute ok and is reported as successful (md5 enabled/checked/passed, etc.) — but the TWRP bootloop symptom persists.

Things I’ve NOT done:
* have not tried to re-flash TWRP (current or older versions)
* have not done a ‘factory reset’ in TWRP
* have not wiped any other files such as cache/data/davlik-cache/system/storage/ etc.
* have not tried to install/flash/push any other ROM/bootloader/SU/ or other ‘FIX’ files
* have not tried to ‘fix permissions’ in TWRP
* have not tried to sideload anything with ADB
* have not tried using the TWRP ‘Terminal Command’

I don’t really know what’s important in the way of key boot-files necessary to boot to the system…. but I do find it curious there is nothing (i.e. no files) in the following folders:
/boot ; /efs ; /preload ; /recovery ; /root ; /system/bin ; /tmp — (** It appears that most All other folders have files in them.)

As I mentioned before, I’m new to all of this… and therefore I’m just a bit nervous now.

So BEFORE I BEGIN TO THRASH AROUND with further actions such as attempting to flash a stock ROM, flashing another stock or custom-recovery, copying over any other files from ADB, or wiping cache/davlik/data etc., or further use of Odin….

……… I just wanted to ask here if anyone has any tips or pointers on where I might should try to go from here. (??)

Thanks very much.

Twrp 2.8.7 won’t flash

I had to revert back to 4.2.1 stock rom, after bricking my tablet. I flashed twrp 2.8.7. And it boots to recovery fine. However when I try to install a new rom, it flashes an goes back to the team win splash screen without installing. Also tried super su without success.
This was happening befor flashing the Asus stock blob. I thought it would fix twrp recovery by reinstalling. The stock recovery also showed a dead android and wouldn’t boot into recovery. Twrp seems to work until I try an install.

Any ideas on how to fix Twrp to install a custom rom and root.??

Any help would be much appreciated. Tablet is currently working with stock 4.2.1 rom.

Is there a one click program someone has created for this? I’m wondering about when the D851 gets MM from LG and would like to test it out? I have seen the latest tmobile rom posted, can I just flash that and it keeps twrp?, but makes it stock? OTA and all that? When I had my nexus 5 I used a program WUGFRESH that was a nice GUI and walked noobs like me through the process go to and from stock and back to custom roms.

Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

1. Power button working as bacback button

Hello, i have a problem flashing custom recovery TWRP on ZUI.

below are the details of the problems:

ZUI Version: 1.2.040
Unlock Bootloader: YES (I feel a bit sketch on this part, because the process does not wipe any data)
Custom recovery to be installed: Un-Official 2.8.7.0 TWRP Recovery for ZUK Z1 by Breadcrust

1. when i try to flash the recovery on fastboot mode, it gives me this:

writing ‘recovery’…
FAILED (remote : Invalid data)
finished. total time" 0.418s

2. when i try boot the recovery on fastboot mode, it also gives error:

downloading ‘boot.img’…
OKAY [0.362s]
booting…
FAILED (remote: bootimage: incomplete or not signed)
finished. total time: 0.369s

* For the solution, i have tried kingroot to allow root access —> NOT SUCCESFULL
** For 2nd solution, i have tried downgrading the ZUI version —-> NOT SUCCESFULL (cannot get into qdloader mode long enough).
*** I also have tried re-downloading the recovery image without using download accelarator (IDM) —> NOT SUCCESFULL

edit: please… if somebody know the problem, please teach me how to overcome the problem. thank you :) (* sorry bad english)

Problem installing TWRP using fastboot (InvalidState)

Hello,

I’am trying to bring my TF700T to run CM11 but already failed installed TWRP 2.8.7.0.
What happened so far?

– TF700T has been unlocked by the TF701 Unlocker Tool, as the original one isn’t available anymore
– Installed Minimal ADB fastboot 1.3.1
– Downloaded twrp.img
– renamed it and copied it to the according folder
– Started the recovery menu
– Checked the drivers of the computers used (Win10 64bit)
– Device was recognized correctly
– tried to install twrp using fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash staging twrp.img<enter>
– got a FAILED (remote: (InvalidState))

Failure

– retried using SDK and the platform tool
– switched computers to a Win7 32bit

It didn’t change anything. Now I am a little helpless, as I can’t root it either, because the buildnumber is too high.

Anyone got any ideas? The stock rom is lagging terribly additional to the already annoying ghost touch problem.

Best regards,

Janos

Restoring TWRP Nandroid .win files

$

My Mum’s managed to mess up her tablet (seems to have reset it but not factory reset, as it’s still encrypted, password protected, etc, just all her apps and even Apex Launcher have vanished) and the only recent backup I can find is a TWRP backup made with Online Nandroid Backup.

TWRP doesn’t seem to recognise the files however, as it doesn’t list any backups. I looked at the log and see that when pointed to the internal storage (which it can’t mount as it’s encrypted), it looks in /data/media/TWRP/ and I’ve recreated that structure on the microSD (where the backups are), giving me /data/media/TWRP/BACKUPS/0000000000000000/2015-04-05–07-14-50/

In that folder I have:
boot.emmc.win
cache.ext4.win
data.ext4.win
recovery.emmc.win
system.ext4.win

and .md5 files for each of those.

The .win files I can open with 7-zip, to show the files without that extension (e.g. data.ext4).

If anyone could help me restore this backup I (and more importantly my Mum) would be very grateful!

I tried installing Nandroid Manager and ES File Explorer and both failed, so something’s clearly messed up. SU 2.46 is installed and I checked root with Root Checker and updated Busybox.

[Q] Formatted SD Card and TWRP Issues?

$

Has anybody who’s formatted their sd card as internal storage had issues seeing folders/zips in twrp? Previously was using the Indian MM on my MXPE and after a few days I formatted as internal…all was smooth but I guess I never went to use twrp again until I went to flashed the MXPE MM rom…booted into twrp but couldn’t see any folders or zips in the internal storage so I had no way to actually flash the rom.

Wound up having to reformat the sd card as portable storage so twrp could read both storage locations again and was able to finally flash the rom…I’m thinking about trying to format again just to see if this is an actual issue or just a one time thing…but if anybody else has experienced the same thing let me know. Btw I’m using the 2.8.7.1 twrp.

Twrp screen unresponsive of touch, power button, bolume buttons.

Hi guys greetings,(Hope everyone’s doing good!)
I’m new here and on android, recently switched from ios,so bought a honor 3c international model and now I have emui 3.O on it and lurker 4.4.2.
And im really surprised by the android features and I like em and have decided to stick with android.
Root is one of its coolest features so I after some months using my phone decided to root and I was completely unaware of these terms like custom recovery, brick, boot loader,e.t.c.
After understanding the concepts I came to conclusion that I have to unlock boot loader first, then a custom recovery like twrp or cmw then that and that, so I followed the following link exactly like it is:
(Insert www)carbontesla.(insert com pls)/2014/08/guide-unlock-honor-3c-h30-u10-bootloader-using-sp-flash-tool/[/url]
After unlocking the boot loader I was "following" the procedure from link:
(Insert www pls)carbontesla.(insert com)/2015/06/root-honor-3c-on-emotion-ui-3-0-b320-firmware/[/url]
Code:

real problem now

After step 8 from the above link my phone does boots into the twrp recovery screen but becomes totally unresponsive of any touch or even the power, volume buttons. But it’s screen turns off after 30 seconds(i think its that auto turn off screen to save power feature)when screen turns off by itself due to being idle THE POWER BUTTON WORKS bur after I once press power button the twrp recovery screen appears again and then again no touch, no power, volume button. I was so scared dafaq I have done to my phone so an idea flashed through my mind,i removed battery and connected phone to pc then i opened mkt_tools and installed super SU from there, then rebooted the phone(from mkt tools)and surprisingly my phone came back to its normal state,I swiped and found super su app, root manager opened su app and it said "not properly rooted"(of course I didn’t expected it to be rooted because I wasn’t able to go after step#8) and closes itself then another idea flashed through my mind so I went play store and updated super su and then opened it but it said no binary found and super su cannot install binary please root again properly…
I just want my twrp screen responding to touch or at least power/volume buttons because I have to reboot the device from the pc everytime(only if I take it to recovery)
After by help of you guys if I finally be able to get twrp screen then I can finally root the device by following the rest steps.
And my device isnot bricked I can use my phone still normal.
Another question I wanted to ask if I can replace twrp recovery with cmw recovery.
And can I remove this improper root somehow and start the whole root process again since I screwed with the mkt_tools
And the another damn mistake I made was to not made a complete backup.
I humbly request you guys to please help me, any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
Thank you very much,
Stay blessed,

Hey i did fixed my permissions with twrp on lollipop and then rebooted. It reboots normally, but i saw some people complaining about it and how they never came back to the backup they had..
It seems that it didnt work in a way, cause it took just a split of a second to fix them, and the process is usually taking 4-5 minutes.
can someone explain me whatever happened or sholdv happen if the fix permissions wouldv work? Or if they really did work? Im very very confused.

TWRP boot problems

Flashed TWRP to a Nexus 6 with Marshmallow already installed
Installed and loaded recovery fine, when I tried to boot the system I got the red system corrupted warning. From here the phone should have booted normally in 10 seconds but it did not, it just shut itself off.

Eventually I re-flashed the entire stock marshmallow system, now the phone boots normally, it still gives me the warning, but then it goes on the load the system.

Anyone else have this problem, were you able to fix it while retaining TWRP?

Error installing Cyanogenmod on Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 with TWRP recovery

$

Hi everyone,

I’ve been having an issue with installing the Cyanogenmod to my Samsung Galaxy S2 T-Mobile SGH-T989 phone using TWRP v2.8.7.0.

I was having an issue where the external SD card where I had the ROM zip file (and my nandroid backup) was not recognized and so I couldn’t access the ROM file from Recovery. My husband helped me using adb push and we put it into /data/media/0.

When I tried to install the ROM file, it says "Unable to find partition for path ‘/data’" and it says an error flashing zip and said it Failed. If I try to reboot, it says "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?"

We tried putting the ROM zip file into /data, but it does the same thing.

Any ideas? Any help will be appreciated.

Unable to install TWRP Recovery on LG G Pad v50020f

Hey guys,so heres the problem…recently i had to use the LG Support Tool and prior to this i was v50020d. When the tool had finished restoring the stock ROM,it upgraded me to v50020f. So i went and successfully rooted it with KingoRoot surprisingly enough with no trouble at all. I then tried to install TWRP Recovery, through the TWRP app,Flashify,Rashr and i even tried Fastboot and ADB which im led to believe don’t work with the v500 but i still tried it and had absolutely no success at all in installing TWRP. I have tried flashing every version of TWRP from 2.8.7.1 back to 2.6.3.0 i think using all those apps mentioned above. So i came on here to XDA to see could i find any solution to my problem but no luck either but i did find a post where a script was used, edited and apparently worked. I downloaded the zip file that was used in this process, edited the runme.bat file by changing the last letter of the build to f which would correspond to my build which is v50020f. I saved the edited file and then ran the script which when finished told me that recovery had been installed so i rebooted the G Pad,it started up,the blue teamwin screen came up and then it just hung there for hours! Thats was it nothing more. No recovery installed. So then i went and used Flashify & flashed `twrp-2.8.7.1-v500.img´ and when i rebooted i got ‘secure booting error, cause:device unlock:so boot success!!’ rebooted the G Pad again and the same thing happened blue teamwun screen loads and then nothing,no recovery. So i flashed the same recovery image with TWRP Recovery app and when it was finished i got the message ‘Success!! Flashing recovery was successful, would you like to attempt rebooting into recovery? so i did and again the same thing happened. Teamwin blue screen and nothing more. When i check TWRP Recovery app afterwards it tells me that there is no recovery installed or it us not recognised. Can anybody please, please, please find a solution to my problem? Oh yeah,i even tried booting into recovey by using the power and volume up and down trick too and got the same result. Thank you so much guys…hope you can help.
