[GUIDE][Difficulty: Intermediate] Weekly TWRP Backups

$
0
0

It’s good practice to run a full backup of your ROM and user data every once in awhile, in case you flash something and get into a bootloop. Thanks to TWRP’s scripting capabilities, we can trigger a weekly backup.

Prerequisites

  1. Root Access

Instructions

  1. Create a new Profile named TWRP Backup.
  2. Create a Time context, and choose a time at night you want the TWRP backup to take place. For me, I made it at 4:00AM. To pick a single time, check both "From" and "To" and put the exact same time in both.
  3. No need to name the task anything, just enter its configuration.
  4. Code –> Run Shell. This is the code you’ll need:
    Code:

    chmod 0777 /cache/recovery
    echo "wipe cache\nwipe dalvik\nbackup SDBOM weeklybackup \ncmd reboot" > /cache/recovery/openrecoveryscript

    Be VERY sure that this is typed exactly as such! Tick "Use Root" and then exit.

  5. Files –> Delete Directory. Delete the TWRP/BACKUPS/YOURDEVICEUNIQUEID/weeklybackup. Check "Recurse." In order to get your device’s unique ID, you need to simply navigate to TWRP/BACKUPS using any file explorer. You should have already made a previous backup, as TWRP will automatically create this folder. (Note: since you likely don’t have a weeklybackup folder already here, it will likely fail the first time. You can easily just skip this action and make a backup once with this name, and then it’ll work from then onwards).
  6. Plugin –> Secure Settings. Go to Root Settings –> Reboot Options –> Reboot Recovery.
  7. Exit out the task editing, and now add a few more contexts to make the backup run at an appropriate time. I added a power context so it only occurs when my phone is charging; I added a date context so it only runs on Sunday; and I also added a WiFi connected context so it only occurs when I’m at home.

That’s it! This should satisfy the average TWRP user. MAKE THOSE BACKUPS!

I was thinking of flashing the new marshmallow rom but it didnt work in CWm.So i flashed twrp 3.0.Afterwards i tried to do a factory reset but it gave some Error messages something like "Cannot mount.failed".Then i restarted the tab and again entered the recovery and found that Internal storage was 0mb.

Afterwards i popped in a sd card with the rom.But it still couldnt flash it and was stuck in the cyan boot screen.I thought that twrp 2.8 would work so i flashed the img file.It said it was successful.Then,i restarted and now when i enter the recovery it says error loading recovery:( its now stuck in that cyan boot screen and i cannot even enter in recovery mode.:(:(:(:(:(

What can i do?Please help.

Guide Odin Flash / Update firmware ODIN

  • You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
  • Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray!

0. Download and Install: Samsung USB Drivers 1.5.51.0 and ODIN
1. Just download the firmware version you want from this posts and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere.
2. Reboot your phone to download mode. To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin 3.**

  • If your ROM is a single .tar.md5 package click on the AP/PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1 and select it.
  • If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA/Code, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin like below
    BL = Bootloader
    AP = PDA (CODE)
    CP = PHONE (MODEM)
    CSC = CSC

4. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
5. Connect the USB cable and wait for any required drivers to install and the ID:COM section to turn blue like below.
6. Click start to flash.
7. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it will reboot when it finishes.

*Note PDA/AP/CSC/CO/MODEM/etc

  • PDA refers to the build version of the software/firmware
  • Phone refers to the baseband/modem version
  • CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
  • .PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout. It’s very likely you may never have to use this.

If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.

If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the CSC bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA/AP in the name is the PDA/AP part of the firmware package

    BL = Bootloader
    AP = PDA (CODE)
    CP = PHONE (MODEM)
    CSC = CSC

TWRP SD card wipe and new ROM install

Hello

I’m currently running a custom ROM (darkobas) but I’m having a few problems.

I would like to do a new fresh/clean install but would like to wipe everything, not only data and caches. TWRP gives me the chance to do a complete wipe, including SD card wipe/erase.

The problem is, if I do a complete wipe, I will loose the downloaded ROM and GApps and I wont be able to install anything!!!

How can I solve this?

Thank you for your help

N9005 TWRP restore fails

Hi everyone,

Im having trouble restoring a TWRP backup. I was on Morningstar’s unofficial CM13 rom, first release. Since development has stalled a bit I decided to switch to Slim ROM by Sparx. I did a TWRP backup of evwrything, only excluding internal and external SD memory. I had some trouble so I tried to restore my Morningstar backup. Then the trouble started.
When I restore the backup, nothing happens after TWRP is done with redefining space or something like that (can’t rmemeber exactly what it says) so I have to remove battery to get my phone to reboot. Not to bad. My phone reboots into CM13, but it reboots like it is the first time I turn my phone on. Only stock apps appear. None of my downloaded apps appear, which I don’t understand at all. Also, root access is gone.
I’m using TWRP 2.8.7.0 on my N9005. Any hints on what might be going on? My backup is around 1.3 GB BTW.

I was exploring the TWRP recovery installed on my tablet and tried to create backup which failed. Then i went to the mount menu and selected data and system. Then into the reboot menu i selected Firstly Recovey, then download, then system, then power off and every option restarted into twrp recovry and i cant start my tablet normally… I tried factory reset and data wiping cache and dalvik wiping but nothing helped. What should i do now ???:crying::confused:

[Recovery] TWRP 3.0.0.0 for L7(P700/P705/P708)

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

CHANGELOG for 3.0.0-0:

-Completely new theme – Much more modern and much nicer looking (by z31s1g)
-True Terminal Emulator – Includes arrow keys, tab and tab completion, etc. (by _that)
-Language translation – It won’t be perfect and especially some languages that require large font files like Chinese & Japanese won’t be availble on most devices. Also some languages may only be partially translated at this time. Feel free to submit more translations to OmniROM’s Gerrit. (mostly by Dees_Troy)
-Flashing of sparse images – On select devices you will be able to flash some parts of factory images via the TWRP GUI (by HashBang173)
-Adopted storage support for select devices – TWRP can now decrypt adopted storage partitions from Marshmallow
-Reworked graphics to bring us more up to date with AOSP – includes support for adf and drm graphics (by Dees_Troy)
-SuperSU prompt will no longer display if a Marshmallow ROM is installed
-Update exfat, exfat fuse, dosfstools (by mdmower)
-Update AOSP base to 6.0
-A huge laundry list of other minor fixes and tweaks

WARNING: This is our first release in a long time. We have a lot of new and somewhat aggressive changes in this new release. The changes to the graphics back-end may cause some devices to not boot up properly or have other display-related issues. If you are not in a position to reflash an older build of TWRP, then wait until you are or at least wait until others have tried the new version for your specific device. You don’t want to end up with a non-working recovery and have to wait several hours or days to get to a computer to be able to fix it.

Notes for themers: In addition to the udpated theme, we have introduced a theme version variable to the TWRP theme system. If the theme version does not match the version that TWRP expects, TWRP will reject the custom theme and load its stock theme. This change will ensure that people who update TWRP without updating their theme will still have a workable recovery. We have removed libjpeg support. The stock theme was only using a jpeg image for the splash / curtain. This change means that any custom themes will no longer be able to use jpeg images. It also means that tools used to repack recovery images with a different curtain / splash will need to be updated to use the new method.

Version number notes: For a while we’ve been using a 4 digit version number and reserved the 4th digit for device-specific updates. For instance, we find and fix a device-specific issue like decryption of data on Nexus 5, we would release that as a 2.8.7.1. After a while, some people would start asking where 2.8.7.1 was for other devices. So, going forward we have decided to change the numbering scheme to 3.0.0-2, etc. Our hope is that this version numbering scheme will more clearly identify that the 4th digit does not indicate a version change for the code base.

We need your help! The bulk of TWRP work is done by 3 people on a volunteer basis. We have pushed most of our device files to our github and we have a gerrit instance. If you have the ability, please help us maintain our official devices and/or add your device to our official device list. Thanks in advance!

DOWNLOAD:
Most devices can be updated quickly and easily within TWRP if you already have version 2.8.4.0 or higher installed
1) Download the latest version down below
2) Reboot to your current recovery or flash the recovery.img with dd on your recovery partition
3) Flash the provided archive

twrp 3.0 question

Hey Guys,

Not a total noob here, but its been awhile since i had a nexus and im clearly missing a step when, but i cant figure out what.

Got the nexus 6p, unlocked bootloader, and set the phone up (fingerprint, accounts, etc)

Decided i wanted to install twrp, so booted into bootloader and ran command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

rebooted phone, and tried to go into recovery, its asking for pattern to decrypt phone. i enter pattern, and its unable to decrpyt.

i try booting back to OS, changing from pattern to pin, and still have the same issue. now twrp asks for a pin, but its still unable to decrypt.

so i try to start over, flash factory images (MHC19I), and try again. same issue. im sure im missing something simple, your help would be much appreciated.

I have a Moto X play TX1562 EU version, I accidently formatted (so not just factory reset) in TWRP and now I can’t install anything at all except fo SuperSU and a custom kernel.
Flashing via sideload doesn’t work.

I am at my wit’s end, I can still use TWRP and exchange files via phone and pc with that, but elsewise….

It gives me the error ‘error executing updater binary in zip sdcard <rom name>.zip’

Downgrade from TWRP 3.0.0-0

I have the newest TWRP, 3.0.0-0, installed, but I want to go back to an earlier version to try out a couple different roms that don’t play well with the new version. Every time I flash an earlier version, the installation goes well but when I try to boot to recovery it just hangs at the splash screen. Then if I flash back to 3.0.0-0, it loads with no freezing or hanging, but I’m back to where I started. I’ve tried installing in TWRP as an img, in terminal emulator (dd if=/blah blah), and Flashify. Same results. I’m hoping I don’t have to use the flash tool and go back to stock and re-root, but I really don’t know what else to do? Suggestions?
